ACNH Mushroom Season Guide: Rare Mushrooms and DIYs

When Is Mushroom Season in ACNH?

Mushroom Season follows the in-game calendar:

  • Northern Hemisphere: November 1–30
  • Southern Hemisphere: May 1–31

Up to five mushrooms can spawn per day, provided fewer than 30 mushrooms are already present on your island. Mushrooms appear near hardwood and cedar trees, while Rare Mushrooms are buried underground near trees and must be dug up.

Before the season begins, clear some space around your trees and check your island rating. This makes it easier to spot mushrooms and improves your chances of finding the rarer types.

All Five Mushroom Types and Spawn Rates

Mushrooms have different spawn rates depending on your island's evaluation. A higher rating increases the chance of finding Elegant and Rare Mushrooms, although neither is guaranteed to appear on a particular day.

Mushroom 1–3 Star Island 4-Star Island 5-Star Island Sell Price
Skinny Mushroom 35% 30% 25% 300 Bells
Flat Mushroom 30% 30% 25% 200 Bells
Round Mushroom 30% 25% 25% 200 Bells
Elegant Mushroom 4% 10% 15% 10,000 Bells
Rare Mushroom 1% 5% 10% 16,000 Bells

The percentages show the relative spawn rates for mushroom types, not a guarantee that you will receive each type every day.

How to Find Rare Mushrooms

Four mushroom types can be picked directly from the ground. Rare Mushrooms are different: look for the star-shaped dig spot near hardwood or cedar trees and use a shovel.

If Rare Mushrooms are your priority, improving your island to a 5-star rating gives you a better chance of finding them. However, they remain uncommon, so check your island every day throughout the season.

You can also encounter mushrooms on Kapp'n's special Friendly Fungus Tour, which offers another way to collect seasonal materials.

Which Mushroom DIYs Should You Craft First?

Your crafting order should depend on the items you want and the materials you have. Some recipes use common mushrooms, while others require Elegant or Rare Mushrooms that are harder to replace.

  • Start with furniture you will use: Mush Lamps and Mush Partitions are useful choices for mushroom-themed outdoor areas and interiors.
  • Save enough materials for your favorite pieces: Mush Tables and Mush Low Stools are relatively straightforward to craft, while Forest Flooring requires a Rare Mushroom.
  • Keep Rare Mushrooms for recipes you want: Each Rare Mushroom sells for 16,000 Bells, but Forest Flooring requires one. Decide whether the recipe or the Bells are more valuable to you.
  • Collect extra common mushrooms: Flat, Round, and Skinny Mushrooms are used across multiple recipes, so gathering them daily helps you avoid running short later.

There is no mandatory crafting order. If you are collecting the entire Mushroom Series, check the recipe list first and set aside the materials needed for your remaining items.

How to Collect Mushrooms More Efficiently

A consistent daily routine is more useful than trying to gather everything at once.

  1. Check your island each day. Pick up visible mushrooms and inspect dig spots near trees.
  2. Leave enough space around trees. Avoid cluttering every available spot with furniture or other objects.
  3. Watch for balloon presents. Seasonal DIY recipes are primarily obtained from balloons, so keep an eye on the sky while completing your daily island tasks.
  4. Track your materials. Store Elegant and Rare Mushrooms separately from common mushrooms so you do not accidentally sell ingredients needed for recipes.
  5. Use the special boat tour when available. Kapp'n's Friendly Fungus Tour can provide another opportunity to find mushrooms and seasonal DIY recipes.

If you are missing several recipes, prioritize collecting materials and checking for balloon presents throughout the month rather than waiting until the final few days.

Prepare for Mushroom Season

Mushroom Season is limited, but a little preparation makes it easier to collect the full set of seasonal items. Check your island rating, gather mushrooms daily, and decide which recipes matter most before spending your rarer materials.
