ACNH Halloween 2026 Event Guide: Dates, DIY Recipes & Candy

2026 ACNH Halloween Timeline: Key October Dates

The 2026 Halloween activity runs across the whole October, separating extended prep time from one main celebration day. Unlike short-lived seasonal happenings, this Halloween event demands advance planning if you hope to grab every limited reward without missing out on time-only content. Here is the full October schedule for Halloween-related activities:

  • October 1, 2026: The Halloween preparation period officially kicks off. Players may start stocking candy, growing pumpkins, hunting for spooky DIY recipes and shopping for Halloween outfits. For users in the Southern Hemisphere, cherry-blossom DIY recipes also become available starting this date.
  • October 30, 2026: The month-long pre-Halloween phase comes to an end. No new pre-event Halloween supplies or costume restocks will show up after this day.
  • October 31, 2026 (Official Halloween Day): The core Halloween event is active from 5 PM to midnight local island time. This is the single day when Jack, the Halloween Czar, visits your island. All special Halloween trades, prank interactions and limited rewards become accessible here.

Every year on October 1st, Jack sends an in-game mail to all players to announce the upcoming Halloween occasion. The letter includes a free Jack's portrait as an early-time bonus gift.

2026 Halloween Pre-Event Guide (October 1-30)

Finishing the 2026 Halloween event completely heavily depends on your month-long prep work. If you skip routine pre-event tasks, you will struggle to collect all spooky DIY recipes, special costumes and rare Jack-related rewards once Halloween night arrives. There are three core prep jobs: gathering candy, raising pumpkins, and unlocking Halloween outfits & character customizations.

How to Gather Halloween Candy

Candy is the most critical resource for this Halloween event. You can trade candy with villagers to get DIY recipes and items, earn lollipops, and unlock Jack's exclusive rewards.

  • Daily purchase method: Between October 1 and October 30, you can buy one piece of candy each day at Nook's Cranny for 120 Bells. There is a strict per-day purchase cap, so remember to shop every single day.
  • Recommended stock amount: You should stock at minimum 15 candies before October 31. You can technically finish the event with fewer candies, but a sufficient stock prevents you from frantically grinding free candy on Halloween night and guarantees you can obtain all recipes and lollipops.

Grow Halloween Pumpkins: Key DIY Craft Materials

Every Spooky-Series DIY recipe requires pumpkins as core crafting materials. Orange pumpkins are mandatory for building all spooky furniture, while green, white and yellow pumpkins are used to customize finished Halloween items.

Action Pumpkin Growing Details
Buy pumpkin starts Leif: 140 Bells per single start; 700 Bells for 5-seed bulk pack (best value)Nook's Cranny: 280 Bells for one start, no bulk discount
Growth cycle Pumpkin starts take 4 days to fully mature after planting
Water-based yield 0 waterings = 1 pumpkin1 watering = 2 pumpkins2 waterings = 3 pumpkins
Regrowth rule After harvest, leftover plants regrow in 2 days; color stays the same and watering yield rules apply again
Pumpkin color note Four colors (orange, green, white, yellow) spawn randomly; players cannot control the resulting color

Unlock Halloween Outfits & Character Customization

Halloween clothing and body customization options are available throughout October, and some of them help you farm free candy on event night.

  • Able Sisters Shop: The store sells complete Halloween costumes the whole month, such as mage gowns, tattered outfits and other spooky apparel for your island styling.
  • Nook Miles redemption: Special Halloween body paint and colored contact lenses can be unlocked for 2400 Nook Miles per style. Four classic designs are offered: Zombie, Mummy, Jester and Scarecrow.

Collect Pre-Event DIY Recipes

During October, island villagers occasionally craft Spooky-Series DIY recipes inside their homes. If you chat with a villager working on a recipe you already own, you have a 70% chance to receive 5 orange pumpkins and a 30% chance to get one free candy. This is a passive way to build up your stock of key crafting resources.

Pre-Event Island Decor & NPC Halloween Costumes

From October 28 to October 30, two spooky tower decorations are permanently set up outside Resident Services to build holiday atmosphere. Major island NPCs also put on unique Halloween costumes in this window:

  • Tom Nook & Mabel: Impish horns
  • Isabelle & Orville: Mage's striped hat
  • Timmy: Flashy pointy-ear animal hat
  • Tommy: Flashy round-ear animal hat

Halloween Night Gameplay (October 31, 5 PM-Midnight)

October 31 is the highlight of 2026 Halloween. The island plaza gets special Halloween decorations, all villagers wear custom spooky outfits, and Jack the Halloween Czar appears near Resident Services for limited-time trades. You can join trick-or-treat exchanges, hunt rare lollipops, unlock new player reactions and earn event-only items plus recipes.

Unlimited Free Candy Farming Tricks

If your pre-saved candy runs out on Halloween night, these two reliable methods let you farm unlimited free candy:

Chat with costumed indoor villagers: Put on any Halloween costume and speak to villagers staying indoors. Indoor costumed NPCs hand out one free candy every 5 minutes, and you may repeat this method non-stop for the whole event.

Trick using Jack's costume: First trade 2 candies to Jack to obtain Jack's Face and Jack's Robe. When you wear this full costume set, villagers mistake you for the Halloween Czar. Each villager will give you one free candy one time for the entire Halloween night.

Villager Trick-or-Treat Exchanges & Rewards

Outdoor villagers dressed up for Halloween will start trick-or-treat interactions. Hand over candy, and you get themed rewards following a fixed sequence, then random bonus drops. If you refuse to give candy, a prank triggers: villagers apply random Halloween face paint and colored contacts to your character (you can remove these easily with a mirror).

Fixed-sequence rewards for repeated candy trades

  1. Spooky garland or spooky table setting (physical item)
  2. Spooky rug (physical item)
  3. Spooky flooring or spooky wall (physical item)
  4. Unlearned spooky garland DIY recipe
  5. Unlearned spooky table setting DIY recipe
  6. Any remaining unlearned Spooky-Series DIY recipes

Random bonus drop probabilities (after fixed rewards are all obtained)

  • 35%: Spooky candy set, garland, table setting or their unlearned DIY recipes
  • 20%: Spooky flooring, spooky wall or spooky rug
  • 22.5%: 5 non-orange pumpkins (or 10 orange pumpkins if you have not collected colored pumpkins yet)
  • 22.5%: 10 orange pumpkins

Lollipop Drop Rules

Lollipops are extremely rare event-only items that can only be traded with Jack. You cannot buy or craft lollipops. You get them only through villager candy trades governed by a hidden counter system. The more candy you give one single villager, the higher your odds of getting a lollipop:

  • 0 candies given: 0% lollipop chance (regular item drop 100%)
  • 1 candy given: 25% lollipop chance
  • 2 candies given: 40% lollipop chance
  • 3 candies given: 60% lollipop chance
  • 4+ candies given: guaranteed lollipop (100%)

Once a villager gives you a lollipop, this hidden counter resets to zero. Veteran players note villagers that have dropped one lollipop may offer more lollipops in subsequent trades.

Jack the Halloween Czar: Location and Exclusive Trades

Jack is the special Halloween NPC. He only appears October 31 between 5 PM and midnight, wandering the open space close to Resident Services, and he never shows up on other dates.

Candy trade rewards with Jack

Trading regular candy to Jack yields random exclusive costume and material rewards:

  • 30% chance: Jack's Face or Jack's Robe (wearable exclusive costume pieces)
  • 35% chance: 5 non-orange pumpkins (or 10 orange pumpkins with no colored pumpkins collected)
  • 35% chance: 10 orange pumpkins

Lollipop trade: Top-tier event loot

Lollipops are Jack's favorite treat. Trading lollipops unlocks the event's most unique rewards you cannot get anywhere else in a set order. You need exactly 3 lollipops to collect all Jack-exclusive content:

  1. 1st lollipop trade: Spooky Carriage (physical item)
  2. 2nd lollipop trade: Spooky Carriage DIY Recipe
  3. 3rd lollipop trade: Spooky Wand DIY Recipe

Any extra lollipops traded after the third one will grant duplicate Jack's Face or Jack's Robe. Also, giving a lollipop to a villager always rewards a Spooky Candy Set.

Handy Tips for Fully Completing the Halloween Event

  1. Do not skip daily candy purchases at Nook's Cranny in October. The one-per-day limit means regular stocking is critical if you want to get all rewards.
  2. Water pumpkin plants two times a day to hit maximum 3-pumpkin harvests, securing sufficient materials for all spooky DIY projects.
  3. Buy pumpkin starts from Leif whenever possible; you save 140 Bells per seed and cut unnecessary spending.
  4. Farm all lollipops from villagers first, then trade lollipops to Jack in sequence, to unlock the Spooky Carriage and Spooky Wand rewards completely.
  5. Unlock the full Jack costume early on Halloween night, so you can quickly collect extra free candy from villagers.
  6. If you accept candy-trade requests from villagers you get more loot; only refuse when you want the temporary face-paint prank effect.
