ACNH Acorn & Pine Cone Guide: Season, Farming & DIY Recipes

When Can You Collect Acorns and Pine Cones?

Acorns and pine cones replace summer shells as the limited-time seasonal crafting materials for the fall season. The collection window differs significantly based on your island's hemisphere.

Players on the Northern Hemisphere can harvest these items starting in September, through October, November, and up until the 10th of December. For anyone on the Southern Hemisphere, the fall season runs from March, April, May, and the first 10 days of June.

You can only gather acorns and pine cones during this defined seasonal period. Once the season ends, the trees on your island will stop dropping these fall materials and revert to standard tree branch drops.

How to Harvest Acorns and Pine Cones

To collect the materials, you will shake trees scattered across your island. There is a clear distinction between the tree types that drop each resource.Shake regular hardwood trees to get acorns. Tall cedar trees are the source for pine cones.

A single tree shake will not always reward a seasonal crafting item. Most of the time, shaking trees drops ordinary tree branches. When an acorn or pine cone falls from the tree, simply walk over it to pick it up. Keep in mind you will need to learn the matching DIY recipes before you can craft the autumn furniture.

Efficient Farming Tips to Gather Materials Quickly

Acorns and pine cones are one of the most player-friendly seasonal resource sets in ACNH. These items can be farmed infinitely from trees on your island. Repeated shaking of the same tree will continue to spawn new drops, just like tree branches.

Based on gameplay testing, there is roughly a 15% chance that a tree drop will be an acorn or pine cone instead of a tree branch. Remember that not every tree shake will drop any item at all.

Compared to summer shells, there is no waiting cooldown for new acorn or pine cone spawns. You can continuously shake trees back to back until you gather every material you require for your fall crafting projects. There is no need to wait for in-game time to refresh drops.

Tired of spending hours shaking trees repeatedly to stock up enough acorns and pine cones for your autumn decor? You can grab extra ACNH Bells here to trade materials or buy island decorations and speed up your fall island build.

Ways to Get Acorns & Pine Cones Outside Fall Season

If your island is not currently in autumn, there are a few methods to get your hands on acorns and pine cones. One option is time travel. By adjusting the date and time settings on your Nintendo Switch console, you can jump to any fall month to begin farming.

Another great approach is visiting a friend's island located in the opposite hemisphere. If your island is experiencing summer or winter, their island might be in fall, and you can harvest materials there.

You can also trade for these items online with other ACNH players. Acorns and pine cones can be dropped on the ground or mailed between players, making player-to-player trading simple.

Sell Value at Nook's Cranny

If crafting autumn decor is not your priority, both acorns and pine cones can be sold to Timmy and Tommy inside Nook's Cranny. Each item sells for 200 Bells.

Crafting the entire collection of 10 seasonal DIY recipes only requires approximately 35 acorns and 31 pine cones. The fall season lasts multiple months, so you have plenty of time to gather materials. Do not rush to sell every piece you collect; a complete material breakdown is included later in this guide.

How to Unlock Acorn & Pine Cone DIY Recipes

There are two main methods to obtain these seasonal DIY recipes, but both rely heavily on luck and consistent grinding.

Isabelle's Morning Island Announcement

Near the start of fall, Northern Hemisphere players in September and Southern Hemisphere players in March will receive a morning update from Isabelle. She will introduce the new seasonal crafting materials, and send the Tree's Bounty Little Tree DIY recipe directly to your NookPhone, provided you do not already own the blueprint.

Older versions of the game had bugs that sometimes stopped players from receiving this recipe through the morning announcement. These glitches have since been patched, and players should receive the blueprint normally as long as no other announcements take priority.

Even if you miss Isabelle's announcement, you are not locked out. The Tree's Bounty Little Tree recipe can also drop from flying balloon presents throughout the season; it is not exclusive to the morning announcement.

Hunt Flying Balloon Presents

During autumn, every balloon present floating across your island has a chance to drop one of the acorn or pine cone DIY recipes. There is no guaranteed way to force a specific recipe drop, so you will need to keep shooting balloons down until you collect all of them.

Duplicate recipes are extremely common when farming balloons. Trading extra duplicate blueprints with friends is the fastest method to complete your recipe collection. You can also sell duplicates online, especially to players living in the opposite hemisphere.

Here are proven tips to farm balloon presents efficiently. Balloons fly in one consistent direction during morning and afternoon hours. Around 6 PM in-game time, wind direction flips completely.

Head to the beach where balloons first arrive on your island and walk back and forth along the shore to spot incoming balloons. While waiting, you can gather manila clams or fish to pass the time.

Balloons follow a predictable spawn cycle. New balloons can appear every 5 minutes starting at 4 minutes past each hour. Spawn windows occur at 1:04, 1:09, 1:14, 1:19 and onward. This is only a possible spawn window, and balloons will not always appear every cycle. Multiple cycles may pass before a balloon actually spawns.

Important Note: Bottled Messages & Villager Crafting

Many players mistakenly believe these seasonal recipes can be found in beach message bottles or learned by watching villagers craft inside their homes. This is not the case.

Acorn and pine cone fall DIY recipes only drop from flying balloon presents. Message bottles and villager crafting pull from a separate pool of non-seasonal DIY blueprints and will never reward these autumn recipes.
